Drummohr Camping and Glamping site is located in Levenhall on the outskirts of Musselburgh, famous for its golf courses and racecourse. Our Edinburgh campsite is just 10 miles from Edinburgh and is located in East Lothian which has wonderful coastline and countryside to explore. Drummohr is ideally placed both for Edinburgh camping and for exploring East Lothian, and the array of local heritage sites that the region has to offer. 

Musselburgh town centre is around 2 miles from our Musselburgh campsite and can be reached by car, by bus or by walking or cycling the John Muir Way, an off-road coastal path that passes very close to the Drummohr campsite and hugs the Firth of Forth shoreline, as well as passing through the Musselburgh lagoons nature reserves. Musselburgh is dissected by the River Esk, also called the Lothian Esk, a river that flows through Midlothian and East Lothian, Scotland.

Musselburgh town centre is easy to explore on foot. Below we’ve noted a number of facilities and amenities, right here on our doorstep that you may find useful when staying at Drummohr, our Musselburgh touring holiday park. There is also plenty to see and do as you venture further afield within Edinburgh City, Midlothian, East Lothian and the Borders regions of Scotland.   

Local Shops and Supermarkets   

In Musselburgh town centre you will find a Tesco Extra, Aldi and Iceland Foods supermarket, where you can purchase grocery items. There is also a small selection of local shops on the High Street including a butchers, bakers, greengrocers and post office. Levenhall is a 20-minute walk from our Musselburgh holiday park and has a small village store and there is a Co-Op and a village store n Prestonpans, a 1-mile walk along the John Muir Way (15/20 minutes). The Sweet Boutique Cafe is a coffee shop in Prestonpans that does amazing cakes. You will not have to venture too far if you have forgotten anything.

Whether you’re looking for a pub with home-cooked food and local ales, a quick takeaway, a restaurant or lunch time café, Musselburgh and the surrounding areas have a selection of dining options, all close to Drummohr. here are also some dog friendly options too. Outdoor and Leisure Facilities   

Musselburgh Sports Centre offers a range of facilities for all ages to enjoy from squash to dance. There is a swimming pool and health suite, sports hall and gym. Musselburgh is blessed with three golf courses. The Royal Musselburgh Golf Club is immediately opposite Drummohr and guests staying at Drummohr Camping and Glamping site benefit from discounted green fees; please enquire at Reception if this is of interest to you. There is also Musselburgh Links Old Course, the world’s oldest golf course, a 9-hole course situated in the centre of the famous Musselburgh Racecourse. Musselburgh Racecourse hosts various races throughout the year. The third course is The Musselburgh Golf Club.

Child-Friendly Activities near Edinburgh

Dalkeith Country Park is a short drive and has a variety of outdoor and adventure activities, as well as one of the best children’s playgrounds in the area. East Links Family Park near Dunbar is a great child-friendly day out from Drummohr, our campsite near Edinburgh.

The area is blessed with fabulous walking and cycle routes, many of them off-road so they are perfect for child-friendly cycling in East Lothian. The John Muir Way is a long-distance path from Dunbar in the East to Helensburgh in the West and passes within a few hundred yards of Drummohr.

Transport Links   

Drummohr has excellent public transport links to both Edinburgh city centre/Edinburgh Zoo and East along the East Lothian coast. The number 26 bus to Edinburgh runs every 10 minutes from the Mining Museum Prestonpans bus stop a five-minute walk from the site (every 20 minutes in the evening) and normally takes around 1 hour. East Lothian buses also operate the night service N26 which runs every 90 minutes. Just make sure you get on one with the destination Seton Sands or Tranent if returning on the night service. If you are staying with us we recommend that you download the East Lothian Bus app which gives live updates on every service.

There is also a train station at Wallyford, a twenty-minute walk and trains run every hour. The journey to Edinburgh Waverley takes around 15 minutes. Trains run between approximately 06.30 and 21.00. Wallyford Railway Station has a park and ride.

Chemist and Medical Facilities

In Musselburgh town centre there is a Boots Chemist and doctors’ surgeries. Riverside Medical Practice 0300 790 6266 is located in the Musselburgh Primary Care Centre. The nearest hospital should you need it is the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh, 7 miles away, which has an Accident and Emergency department. The Royal Hospital for Sick Children is around 8 miles away.
