Planning A Family Holiday In Scotland

Category

Taking a holiday with a young family can be hectic, but great fun. Drummohr Camping and Glamping provides the perfect base when planning a family holiday in Scotland, so we’ve put together some handy tips to help you get the most out of your break. our Edinburgh campsite is open all year round in and so is perfect for Christmas camping.

Planning Your Trip

Travelling on a self catering, UK holiday often means a car packed to the brim with everything you need for unpredictable weather. When travelling with young children this is multiplied….. Think buggies, bikes, buckets and spades, not to mention all the snacks, so there’s often limited room left for your food shopping. Drummohr is ideally located on the edge of Musselborough, with a selection of supermarkets close by. To make things easy you can pre order a click and collect from Tesco Extra, only 2 miles away, or get it delivered to the entrance of the site.

It’s more common now for leisure activities and restaurants to require advance booking so it’s a good idea to plan some of your trip before you arrive. Whilst it’s always fun to enjoy spur of the moment adventures, there is nothing worse than something being fully booked when you turn up.

Things to Do with A Young Family in Edinburgh

It’s good to have a balance between downtime and keeping the kids entertained. In between activities, the brand-new playpark at Drummohr is perfect for keeping little ones busy. There is plenty of green space in the park for them to run around and there is a sand pit too, so be sure to bring a bucket and spade! For when you want to venture out, a couple of family favourite things to do near Edinburgh include…

Fort Douglas Adventure Park

Located in Dalkeith Country Park, Fort Douglas Adventure Park is a fantastic outdoor adventure play area. It’s about 15-minutes drive from Drummohr, and if you’re travelling from the North, West or South it’s on your way.

Entry to the park is pre-bookable in morning or afternoon slots, so is a perfect fit for the afternoon of your arrival day, and gives the kids a chance to burn off some energy after being couped up in the car.

Edinburgh Zoo

A visit to the Zoo is a must when visiting Edinburgh with a young family as there is so much to see and do. As you may have heard Edinburgh Zoo is very hilly, so you will definitely want to wear comfortable footwear, pack light and take a pushchair for little tired legs.

The zoo is very big, and as well as visiting the animals, there is a new dinosaur exhibition and lots of playparks, so it takes a few hours to get round. Booking a slot for the morning will help to give yourself ample time without rushing.

There is an abundance of tasty food vendors, so plenty of choice for food, and of course everywhere you look there is an ice cream stand and a picnic spot! Again, the zoo can get busy so it’s a good idea to pre-book so that you get the arrival time you wish, and there is also a price saving for booking online.
