Drummohr Camping and Glamping is one of the few Edinburgh campsites open all year in Scotland. We have hard-standing touring pitches, all with electric hook-up, and our grass tent pitches with electric on our campsite open all year, making us perfect for Christmas camping. We offer fire pits for hire during the cooler months. There are also Winter seasonal caravan pitches. With a selection of glamping pods, family bothies with WC, deluxe bothies with WC and a range of two-and-three bedroom hot tub lodges why not try Christmas glamping with us at our campsites open at Christmas.
Our location on the shores of the Firth of Forth, just 10 miles from Edinburgh City, easily accessible by bus or train, and equally convenient for the beaches and villages of East Lothian mean that a stay at our Edinburgh campsites open all year really does mean the best of both worlds.
Edinburgh is world famous for its seasonal festive celebrations, with a Edinburgh Winter Festival including its Christmas markets in Princes St Gardens and its Hogmanay celebrations. There are not many campsites open at Christmas in Edinburgh so why not give Drummohr a try? Edinburgh is a great place for Christmas shopping and enjoying a drink or bite to eat with friends. East Lothian also has plenty of attractions open over Christmas including the Winter Wonderland at Gosford House, Longniddry (closed for 2022) and Enchanted Balgone at the Balgone Estate, North Berwick. There is festive racing at Musselburgh Racecourse, including the New Years Day Sensational RaceDay and a Santa Run at North Berwick Beach on Christmas Eve. The Midlothian Snow Sports Centre is a short drive from Drummohr and has the longest dry ski slope in Europe.
The advantages of travelling out of season to caravan sites open all year is that places tend to be less crowded. You could very well have one of the beautiful East Lothian beaches to yourself. There are lots of Winter coastal walks. For more information on the beaches of East Lothian click HERE.
Winter is also a great time for bird watching, with less tree cover. The Levenhall Links Nature Reserve, to the East of Musselburgh, is a short walk from Drummohr, one of a few campsites open all year in East Lothian, and the lagoons will be full of Winter wading birds. You could also walk along the seawall of the John Muir Way to spot large varieties of sea ducks in the Firth of Forth. The seals at North Berwick and the Isle of May, Britain’s largest East coast breeding colony, give birth to their pups in October and November. 30,000 pink footed geese roost in Aberlady Bay Nature Reserve in the Autumn.
Wild swimming is increasingly popular during the Winter months and Portobello Beach is a popular spot for outdoor swimming Edinburgh, after which you could grab a spot of brunch at one of the many cafes on the promenade.
There are several sporting events taking place in the area over Winter, including the Six Nations Rugby at Murrayfield in February and March so why not consider a stay at our caravan sites open all year.

Unlike many sites that don’t re-open until after Easter, Drummohr Camping and Glamping Site is campsites open all year and is perfect for an early Spring break as the days start to lengthen. East Lothian is blessed with golf courses, including championships links at Muirfield and Musselburgh Links, one of the oldest UK golf courses. For more information on East Lothian golf click HERE.
The Royal Highland Show takes place in June each year at Ingliston, Edinburgh and the Edinburgh Marathon on the last Sunday in May. The Edinburgh Marathon runs from Holyrood Park along the East Lothian coast and finishes in Musselburgh and so Drummohr is always a popular spot for runners and spectators alike.
The dunes of coastal East Lothian come alive in the Spring and one of our favourite walks is around Aberlady Bay Nature Reserve. The gannets make their return to Bass Rock, the world’s largest Northern gannet colony, and boat trips start to run again from the Scottish Seabird Centre in North Berwick.
August in Edinburgh is dominated by festival season and Drummohr Camping and Glamping Site, a holiday park open all year round, makes a perfect base for those wanting somewhere to retreat after an action packed day. Edinburgh is known as the Festival City and the Edinburgh Festival Fringe, Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo, Edinburgh International Book Festival and Edinburgh International Festival all take place during August so it is important to book your accommodation well in advance as most places, including Drummohr, get sold out. North Berwick has its own festival, the Fringe by the Sea which takes place in August and is perfect for families.
Summer is a great month for enjoying the gorgeous East Lothian coastline, whether that is coastal walking, enjoying some seafood or a glass of wine outdoors in a coastal café, learning new watersports, including kitesurfing and windsurfing at Longniddry, surfing at the Belhaven Surf Centre in Dunbar or sailing at North Berwick.
