Dog Friendly Days Out Edinburgh by Public Transport 

Lothian buses welcome well behaved dogs on a lead and make no charge. The service 26 bus from Drummohr into Edinburgh bus station takes around 1 hour, with the bus stop just a 5-minute walk from the Edinburgh holiday park. A day ticket on Lothian buses is just £4.50. 

Wallyford train station is a 15-minute walk from Drummohr holiday park, with Scot Rail trains direct to Waverley station Edinburgh running around once an hour taking just 10 minutes. A single journey costs from just £2.15. Domestic pets are welcome on the train with no extra charge: up to two per travelling passenger but they must be on a lead or in a travel cage. 

For city sightseeing Edinburgh, the Hop On Hop Off open top tour bus allows dogs and offers a variety of tours and excursions allowing easy access to the dog friendly attractions Edinburgh. Well behaved dogs are welcome at no extra charge on board Edinburgh tour buses.

Edinburgh is a very dog friendly city and it is not possible to list every café or restaurant that welcomes dogs. Visitors should be spoilt for choice with dog friendly places to eat in Edinburgh. If you are looking for a gourmet Edinburgh dog friendly place to eat then the Tom Kitchin owned Scran and Scallie, at Stockbridge is an award winning gastro pub that welcomes dogs.  

Honeycomb and Co in Merchiston Place is recommended for breakfast, weekend brunch and lunch.  The Caley Sample Room even has dog beer alongside its excellent food. The Piecebox fully licensed café offers a wide choice of vegan dishes. There are two Loudons café restaurants in Edinburgh and both welcome dogs.

You will find that many pubs in the city welcome well-behaved dogs, but these are a few of our favourites. Many of the dog friendly pubs Edinburgh offer doggy treats and water bowls as standard and many of the pubs also serve food. The Stockbridge Tap at Raeburn Place has a range of cask and keg craft beers, as well as plenty of whisky. The Wally Dug serves your pet water before offering you a pint. The Bellfield Brewery taproom and beer garden have gluten free beer and even have their own Dogtoberfest. Dogs are treated to biscuits made from the spent grain.

The Royal Mile Tavern, in the heart of the Old Town on the Edinburgh Royal Mile, real ale and whiskey bar Bow Bar and Oxford Bar, immortalised in Ian Rankin’s books as Rebus’ pub of choice, are all city centre favourites. Dogs are allowed on the ground floor of the Cold Town House  on the Grassmarket which has fabulous views of Edinburgh Castle. The Holyrood 9A has lots of craft ales and serve a haggis burger for those wanting to try something traditionally Scottish.
