The city of Edinburgh at Christmas and New Year is a magical place to visit. Stunning Christmas decorations, a lively Christmas Market and an array of exciting festive events to keep you entertained makes Edinburgh the perfect city to visit during the holiday season. Drummohr is one of the few Edinburgh campsites open all year including Christmas.

Edinburgh Winter Festival 

The Edinburgh Winter Festival takes place across many famous landmarks in Edinburgh, runs from the 26th of November to the 3rd of January and has something for everyone!

  • Shop artisan festive gifts and enjoy delicious food and drink at the Edinburgh Christmas Market in the East Princes Street Gardens. You can also take in the sights from the Forth 1 Big Wheel.
  • Enjoy the family funfair, story telling with Santa himself, or find your way through the festive Christmas tree maze in Santa Land at West Princes Street Gardens.  
  • Have a go at ice skating and enjoy the traditional fairground rides on Edinburgh’s famous George Street. 

Christmas lights, lots of people in Edinburgh

There’s also a wide range of bookable events taking place throughout November and December:

  • Be captivated at the theatre with An Edinburgh Christmas Carol at the Royal Lyceum Theatre from the 24th of November to the 30th of December. 
  • Visit Christmas at the Edinburgh Botanic Gardens, in the early evening to be wowed by the stunning lights and illuminations. Taking place at the Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh from the 17th of November to the 30th of December.        
  • See the Castle of Light: A Kingdom of Colours and the colourful displays at Edinburgh Castle, showing on various dates throughout November and December.     
  • Enjoy a night of seasonal music and book tickets to the SCO Chorus Christmas Concert on the 20th and 21st of December.       
  • Sit back and enjoy Captivate Theatres' adaption of the Dickens’ Christmas Carol, featuring traditional carols. Showing 16th and 17th of December.      

Edinburgh Hogmanay

Visit the world famous Edinburgh Hogmanay street party on New Years Eve and enjoy live DJs, funfair attractions and delicious street food and drinks. For a first this year, visitors to Edinburgh Hogmanay will be able to become part of the show with personal LED wristbands to help light up the party!

Edinburgh city centre is easily accessible by both bus and train from Drummohr, making it an ideal location to visit over Christmas and New Year. Drummohr offers Christmas glamping and is a campsite open all year in Edinburgh.
